ABOUT
I’m Gail Myerscough, a designer, illustrator, and surface pattern designer based in Manchester.

I create bold, colourful prints and patterns inspired by mid-century design, music, and architecture. I mix strong colours, graphic patterns, and retro influences to make my designs feel both nostalgic and modern.

I work from my studio in South Manchester, designing collections for prints, homewares, and stationery. I also take on commissions, collaborations, and licensing projects. Everything is designed here and all my products are made in the UK.

Before starting my studio full-time, I spent 16 years at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. Losing my job during the pandemic gave me the push to make this my full time job.

Since then, I’ve licensed and sold my work internationally and worked with clients including Tim Burgess, Dave Rowntree, and Manchester Museum. My designs have appeared in publications like Stylist, Ideal Home, House Beautiful, Stella, The Lady, Real Homes, and The Observer.

I share my home studio with my assistant, Pete the cat. He likes to sit on my sketchbooks, steal paper from the bin, and get in the way of the printer.

Growing up...

I grew up in Blackburn, Lancashire in the 1970s.
As a child, I loved colouring in. I once sent a picture to Tony Hart’s Gallery. It wasn’t chosen but that didn’t stop me wanting to be an artist when I grew up.

I studied Surface Pattern Design at University over 20 years ago. At that time all work was hand drawn and used colour separation. Computers were hardly used apart from one session a week where we learnt the very basic Paint program.
After many years of doing other things, I really wanted to get back into design. It was an itch I needed to scratch!
I started to retrain in digital design techniques in 2014 with Make It In Design and launched my studio in 2015.
